A Final Levantine Harbinger?

Marwan Barghouti, jailed Palestinian leader of al-Mustaqbal and leader of the first Intifada and main actor in the al-Aqsa Intifada, called for “million-person marches” through a prison letter to liberate the Palestinian people from the Israeli state in September when the UN hears and votes on the Palestinian bid for state sovereignty. Although Barghouti calls for nonviolent demonstrations, the level of Israeli response will most likely engender either glory or doom; public support for the ultimate Palestinian goal alongside the UN vote could be bolster the hopes of Palestinians for whom statehood has been a fleeting desert mirage since 1967. Once the pot boils over, yet again, the may be disastrous consequences for the two peoples living alongside one another, yet there also may be resolution.
